Beer drunk all over the world suffers from a bad reputation. It is accused of promoting weight gain, and creating a belly. But this reputation is now denied by a new study “Beer & calories; a scientific review”. Produced by nutritionist Kathryn O’Sullivan, this one declares that beer will not make you fat and that the “beer belly” is just a myth. She pointed out that the beer was nowhere near as high in calories as it had been thought.
Beer rich in vitamins and antioxidants
“Unfortunately, beer has this image of a high calorie, high fat drink. It’s very unfairDr O’Sullivan told The Times. As she reports in her report, beer is actually lower in calories than wine and some fruit juices, and therefore does not make you fat any more than either of these drinks as long as it is. ‘it is consumed in moderation. If many drinkers do not know how many calories there are in 10cl of beer (48 calories for lager), the nutritionist indicates that replacing two glasses of wine (80 calories per 100 cl) per day with two bottles of beer would reduce the number of calories ingested per year by 58,240.
Beer contains many other beneficial elements for health such as vitamins, fiber, antioxidants and minerals. According to her, beer would have a positive effect on sleep, heart, bones, kidneys and even cancer. “The consumption of beer in England is considered by many to be a vice and not part of a balanced and healthy lifestyle. But this is contrary to the latest scientific evidence“, said Dr. O’Sullivan, insisting however on the risks of excessive alcohol consumption.
A matter of moderation
“Enjoyed in moderation, beer, like wine, can provide essential vitamins and minerals, and moderate consumption can also protect against several disorders, such as heart disease, osteoporosis or diabetes.“, she added again quoted by the Telegraph.
