Have you ever heard of the “vampire facial lift”? This new facial treatment (notably acclaimed by Kim Kardashian) consists of having a small amount of blood drawn from the arm and then, after going through a centrifuge, to have it re-injected into the face.
Crazy and probably painful, this facial treatment (popular for a few years across the Atlantic) could also be dangerous to health.
This Monday, April 29, 2019, two women were infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV, which is responsible for AIDS) after having benefited from a “vampire facial lift” in a beauty salon in Albuquerque, in the State of New Mexico (in the United States).
“Practices conducive to the spread of infections through the blood”
In question ? Poor hygiene in the establishment, according to the New Mexico Department of Health, which recalls that the beauty institute – spa had already been closed in September 2018 due to “practices conducive to the spread of infections through the blood”. The hypothesis favored by experts is that of poor disinfection of the micro-needles used as part of the “vampire facial lift”.
US health authorities are now offering free HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C testing to all beauty salon clients between May and September 2018.
“If you really want to benefit from this facial treatment, make sure that the material used is disposable and ask for the packaging to be opened in front of your eyes – and instead trust a recognized professional!” Advise experts from the New Mexico Department of Health.
