We must at all costs avoid taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, alcohol, tobacco on an empty stomach… These factors are often implicated in stomach ulcers. But the main culprit is a bacterium, Helicobacter pylori, resistant to acidity, which causes about 80% of peptic ulcers. A better lifestyle, however, can help prevent illness.
– Foods to avoid: vinegar, pickles, mustard, spicy dishes, fatty foods, coffee, chocolate, citrus fruits, tomatoes, mint, milk and onions.
– Drink as little alcohol and carbonated drinks as possible.
– Do not smoke because tobacco increases acidity in the stomach.
– Avoid taking anti-inflammatory drugs or aspirin without meals or drink with a full glass of water. Some antibiotics can also irritate the lining of your stomach, so don’t take them without food or drink, let alone before bed.
