An Italian was forced to use his laptop between three and four hours a day for 15 years in the course of his work. This excessive use has just been recognized as responsible in the occurrence of a tumorbenign to the brain in this 57-year-old man. The Ivrea court (northern Italy) has just established the link between the appearance of an atrial neuroma, a tumor that develops from the nerve at the level of the ear, in this employee and the intensive use of the telephone in the course of its functions.
This “judgment recognizes the causal link between an inappropriate use of the cell phone and a brain tumor, affirmed the lawyers of the plaintiff, taken again by the AFP. From now on we believe that it is necessary to reflect on this problem and to take appropriate measures “.
Waves “possibly carcinogenic” for humans
The victim had started to feel a sensation of plugged ears before being diagnosed with atrial neuroma. If the tumor is benign, the Italian had to have his acoustic nerve removed. The Italian court ordered the National Institute of Insurance against Work Accidents (Inail) to pay a lifetime indemnity of 500 euros per month to this employee.
The cancer research agency of the World Health Organization (WHO) considers the use of cell phonesas “possibly carcinogenic to humans”. Further studies must be carried out on this subject to assess the health risks.
