Associations have lodged a complaint against high schools which have set up smoking areas in their walls, in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks.
It is the cigarette too many: the one that is roasted in the confines of schools, in defiance of the Evin law. Since the attacks and the establishment of the state of emergency, many high schools have set up specific spaces in the playgrounds to allow students to take their “cigarette break” without having to go out into the street. Objective: to avoid regroupings which could become an easy target for terrorists.
Half of high schools in Île-de-France
Except that the initiative is far from unanimous. A pulmonologist from Lyon has thus announced her intention to file a complaint against the rectorate and against a school in the city which has implemented such measures.
In Ile-de-France, more than half of establishments have set up smoking areas inside high schools, according to the Alliance contre le tabac association, which has just lodged a complaint against three high schools in the Ile-de-France region.
Since the attacks, the government has shown tolerance towards these schools. A circular has thus put his finger on the possibility for school heads to set up outdoor spaces in high schools to prevent students from going out during interclasses.
A union, the SNPDEN (National Union of National Education Management Staff) has for its part called for the systematic establishment of smoking areas in high schools, as long as the terrorist threat looms.
