Appeared in mainland France in 2004, the tiger mosquito is progressing from year to year throughout the territory. In 2019, it is Île-de-France’s turn to be placed in red vigilance.
The tiger mosquito, an insect vector of infectious diseases
The tiger mosquito continues to settle in the territory of mainland France. Appeared 15 years ago in the south of France, it is now present in other regions where the climate is absolutely not hot and tropical, as in particular in the Paris region.
Between May and August 2019, Public Health France recorded 125 cases of infections linked to the tiger mosquito in Île-de-France of which 112 are cases of Dengue. This disease, also called tropical flu, is transmitted by the tiger mosquito and causes very high fevers which can be dangerous, even fatal for the most fragile people (children and the elderly).
Île-de-France placed in red or orange vigilance
Faced with this proliferation of the tiger mosquito, several departments of Île-de-France have been placed, for the first time this year, in red vigilance. It is Paris, Seine-et-Marne, Essonne, Val-de-Marne, Seine-Saint-Denis and Hauts-de-Seine. The Val d’Oise and the Yvelines are, for their part, in orange vigilance.
The progression of the tiger mosquito is rapid and spreads every year. In 2019, nine new departments were placed in red vigilance. ” In all, 66 departments are colonized or are in the process of being colonized, ie nearly 70% of the territory. Indeed, we observe that most of the departments which are in orange vigilance sooner or later switch to red vigilance. », We read on the site Mosquito vigilance.
