In recent years my thighs have felt thick and heavy. It bothers me when walking. I am also a healthy 80 year old woman. A bit too heavy: 82 kilos by 1.58 meters. What could this be?

A feeling of thick and heavy thighs (did you measure the size?) can be caused by an increase in muscle tissue (due to a lot of training), fat tissue or fluid. An increase in fluid is called edema. This usually starts with the lower legs, because the fluid sinks down, as it were, where it accumulates.
By the way, you are quite overweight. With 82 kilos by 1.58 meters you have a Body Mass Index of 33, and that’s big.
I think the difficulty in walking has to do with poor blood flow to the muscles. The best remedy for this is training. For example, try cycling for an hour every day on the exercise bike.
