A new study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine took an interest in our sexual fantasies, asking 1,500 people for their opinions.
Your biggest fantasy is having sex with several partners? Or would you dream of doing it in a public place? A study published today in the Journal of Sexual Medicine was interested in the nature of our fantasies.
Pathological sexual fantasies are clinically defined: they involve “unwilling partners, […] suffering or [ils sont] absolutely necessary to obtain satisfaction ”, as the researchers of the study indicate.
This is not the case for “abnormal” or “atypical” fantasies. So, to find out a little more, researchers from the Philippe-Pinel Institute in Montreal asked 1,517 Quebec adults (799 men and 718 women; average age of 30) for their opinion. They had to answer a questionnaire describing their own sexual fantasies, in addition to describing in detail their favorite fantasy.
Threesome and submission
Some results are agreed: the presence of the romantic partner is thus significantly greater in female than male fantasies. In general, men in a relationship fantasize much more about extramarital affairs than women in a relationship. This study confirms that men have more fantasies, especially having sex with two women. And they talk about it with greater intensity than women.
As for women, 30 to 60% of them evoke themes associated with submission.
More surprisingly, the nature of sexual fantasies is varied among the general population. Very few can be considered statistically rare or unusual or typical. A second study was launched to analyze these results with more finesse, and to understand a little better the nature of our most intimate fantasies.
