But according to a new study published in the American Journal of Public Health and jointly conducted by researchers from the University of Warwick (UK) and the University of Queensland (Australia), fruits and vegetables would also … be happy.
The researchers worked with 12,385 volunteers – adult men and women living in Australia. For 4 years (from 2009 to 2013), the participants kept a food diary, in which they recorded each day the amount of fruits and vegetables consumed. At the same time, they also had to regularly answer questionnaires concerning their well-being. Of course, their personal and professional situations were also taken into account by scientists.

Verdict? “People who consumed a large amount of fruit and vegetables on a daily basis were generally happier than others. We also observed a peak in well-being around 8 fruits and / or vegetables per day”, explains Dr Redzo. Mujcic, of the University of Queensland. As a reminder, 8 portions of fruit and / or vegetables per day = approximately 720 grams. Not easy to apply, especially in the middle of winter!
