They are the nightmare of young and old, and are obviously called lice! Brown, blond or red, no head is spared even with impeccable hygiene. If children are the most affected at school, in the park or at the recreation center, they can also infect adults. So, as Christmas approaches, stay vigilant because lice do not go on vacation. To help you, Inpes (1) is delivering these tips and advice from this Friday in an information booklet “Les poux”, which can be downloaded from www.inpes.sante.fr. What to approach the new zen year!
How to know if you have lice
The first signs that should alert are itching. If in doubt, check your child’s hair, paying special attention to the back of the ears, the back of the neck and near the root. Ideally, run a lice comb through the hair over a sink or bathtub to better identify if lice or nits are falling. Nits are brown, a little golden, and strongly clinging to the hairline. They are resistant to washing and brushing.
But when it is too late, and the lice are already there, action must be taken quickly to prevent further spread. In this case, everyone must have their brush, comb, hat, scarf … and especially not to exchange them.
In addition, parents should examine their children’s heads at least once a week. And also ask their toddlers to avoid sticking their heads against those of others because lice spread very quickly, especially at school because children are in close contact with each other. For girls, it’s best to keep their long hair tied back.
How to get rid of it
So, to treat those already affected, Inpes provides advice on how to deal with lice. First of all, the ideal is to treat all the people in the family who have lice as soon as possible, on the same day, because an untreated head can transmit lice again to its surroundings and everything has to be done again.
How? ‘Or’ What ? By buying a product from a pharmacy that kills both lice and nits. This product should be spread over the entire scalp and hair, from roots to ends, following the instructions for use and repeat this treatment ten days later. In addition, it is necessary to pass a lice comb through the hair to drag the dead lice every day until complete eradication of the lice and nits.
Finally, last measure but not the least important, you will need to machine wash at least 60 ° C the laundry, comforters, sheets … anything that may have been in contact with the head and shoulders or put them on. in a closed garbage bag for two days.
And one final warning though, these head lice products can irritate the eyes or skin and cause allergies. They can even catch fire if they are near a heat source. They should therefore be used with caution and only if you have lice.
