The very first stone of the Alzheimer village of Dax (Landes) was laid in June 2018. The village will welcome its first residents next March, we learn in the daily Sud-Ouest. This new generation Ehpad aims to experiment with alternative therapies and allow patients to evolve in a familiar environment and maintain a social life. At the origin of this project, we find Henri Emmanuelli, former socialist minister, who died in 2017.
A seemingly ordinary village
The 120 future residents will be accommodated in 16 small shared houses. They will be accompanied by a hundred caregivers and volunteers without white coats, as well as “visiting dogs“trained to help patients get out of psychic isolation.
In this Alzheimer’s village, everything has been thought out so that residents feel at home: no fence, a large green park, a brasserie, a beauty and hairdressing salon, an auditorium, a library and a mini-market will open their doors there. .
The patients, that it will be necessary to call the villagers, will be able to evolve in this secure environment at their own pace. This village with traditional architecture will be divided into four residential districts and visiting families will be accommodated in studios provided for this purpose. In addition, the restaurant will be able to accommodate customers from outside.
The daily price for staying in this therapeutic village is on average for public EHPADs with an Alzheimer’s unit, ie €58 for accommodation and €7 for dependency (all expenses included). The whole is eligible for available aid.
