Remember: on March 10, we told you about Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty, sadly known to be the “fattest woman in the world”. In February 2017, this 36-year-old Egyptian woman was admitted to Saifee Hospital, a hospital in Bombay (India): paralyzed by a tropical disease that causes swelling of the limbs and severe obesity – elephantiasis or lymphatic filariasis – she does not hadn’t been out of her home for 25 years.
When he entered the hospital, Eman weighed 504 kilograms. On March 7, 2017, she had then undergone bariatric surgery, a laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy which had reduced the volume of her stomach to 15% of its initial size. The surgery, associated with an exclusively liquid diet, seems to have borne fruit: today, the young woman has already lost 242 kilograms, almost 50% of her initial mass. She now weighs 262 kilos.
“We were hoping – 30 kilos per month, maximum”
Asked by the Hindustan Times, Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala did not hide his surprise: “we knew that the weight loss would be rapid (in particular thanks to better control of the phenomenon of water retention) but we hoped – 20 to – 30 kilos per month, no more ”. In total, in India, 13 doctors take care of the young woman.
This incredible weight loss also improved her health: “When Eman arrived at our facility, her creatinine level was 3.7 mg / dL. However, the accumulation of this metabolic waste indicates a failure of renal filtration. Today, his creatinine level has stabilized at 1 mg / dL, and he’s average. In addition, the doctors noted an improvement in his cardiac and respiratory functions. A challenge to follow!
