Even the average supercar can’t break this record
The fine with the highest recorded speed was not driven by a Fiat Panda, you already suspected that. And even the average supercar does not manage to break this record. The fastest speeding ticket in the world has been issued in Texas, America. Not surprisingly, this happened during the Gumball 3000. The record has stood for over fifteen years.
In the spring of 2003, a pack of supercars and hypercars moved from San Francisco to Miami, as seen in Gumball 3000 The Movie. The Gumball’s fastest car that year was a Koenigsegg CCR – also the fastest production car in the world at the time.
Plagued by engine problems, the Koenigsegg CCR suffered a significant delay and that time had to be made up as well. No problem for a Koenigsegg. The driver kicked the Swedish hypercar to 389 km/h on a highway where you are only allowed 120 km/h.
After the 269 km/h violation, the Koenigsegg CCR was confiscated and the driver was allowed to hum for a few hours. He was released after a substantial bail, but the car was not allowed to finish the race.
The fastest speeding fine in the world is a monkey sandwich?
There is no hard evidence of the fine. Skeptics claim that the story is not true. At the end of the Gumball movie, the car is also said to have been impounded in north Florida. The Koenigsegg once reached a top speed of 387 km/h on the Nardò Ring. The penalty rate is therefore higher than the record. There are also people who claim that the police’s measuring equipment can only measure up to 320 km/h.
Is this the real record holder?
Then there is another contender for the fastest speeding fine in the world: a Bugatti Veyron that was caught in July 2009 with a speed above 337 km/h where you were allowed to 105 km/h. The driver proudly placed the fine on social media.
Incidentally, you can never say with certainty that one of these two fines is the fastest. After all, not everything appears on the internet. Who knows, Christian von Koenigsegg himself may have been caught during a test drive in a Regera.
