The Covishield vaccine has just been integrated by France into its ” sanitary pass », allowing many travelers to be able to return to France, as the Radio France Internationale website explains.
This is good news, especially because this vaccine is widely used in India and in Africa (DRC and Nigeria).. This will allow people vaccinated with this product to be able to access the same rights as those who have benefited from Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca.
A controversial vaccine but validated by the WHO
Moreover, Covishield is the equivalent of AstraZeneca, outside European borders. It is produced by the Chinese laboratory Sinopharm. It could be criticized for its lack of robustness in the face of some variants. Last May, a new wave of positive cases of Covid-19 (variant Beta, discovered in South Africa) broke out in the Seychelles. However, the population there was vaccinated at 70.9% in one dose, and 62.2% in two doses.
In Europe, the Covishield vaccine is not recognized and not administered. That said, the World Health Organization has validated it. In fact, travelers who have received it will no longer be subject to quarantine upon their arrival in France.
