The first deliveries of Tesla Model Y in France are scheduled for August 2021. Initially, the electric SUV will be produced in China for Europe and will only be offered there in two five-seater variants. Its starting price drops to € 59,990 in France.

Ahead of its delay, Tesla announces the imminent arrival of the Model Y in Europe. The mid-range electric SUV from the American manufacturer was initially planned for early 2021 on the Old Continent before being postponed until the next school year; it will finally make its first laps of the wheels in the heart of summer. In France, the first deliveries are announced for this month of August.
European Model Ys produced in China
The first Model Ys destined for Europe will come from Tesla’s Chinese Gigafactory, based in Shanghai. When the brand’s German factory is operational, it will supply the continent (and other territories) with Model Y.
The Berlin site has suffered multiple delays since its establishment in 2020, for various reasons such as opposition from environmental associations, administrative formalities or a non-compliant water drainage system. The latest news is that car production is due to start there in early 2022.
Great autonomy, little bonus
As the Model Y approaches commercialization in France, Tesla has updated the French configurator of its crossover. We can discover a price reduction of around € 3,000 for each of the two versions offered. With a starting price just below € 60,000, the vehicle will be able to benefit from an ecological bonus of € 2,000 in its basic configuration (then € 1,000 in 2022).
The range still consists of Long Range and Performance models, both with all-wheel drive thanks to their two engines. The Grande Autonomie variant will be the first to be delivered. Tesla announces that it is able to travel 505 km on a charge according to the WLTP homologation cycle. The firm promises 480 km of autonomy for the Performance version, recognizable by its 21-inch rims and its lowered ground clearance, and officially capable of going from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.7 s.

The panoramic roof will be part of the standard equipment. The improved Autopilot semi-autonomous driving system with automatic lane change will be optional. But above all, while the SUV can have a third row of seats in other markets to accommodate seven people on board, only the five-seater configuration will be available in Europe until further notice. It’s a cold shower for those who hoped to benefit from this very rare capacity in the segment, and a godsend for Mercedes whose EQB will be the only electric compact SUV available with seven seats in our region.
