Your teen slumps for hours in front Games of thrones, zappet in hand? Be careful, maybe he is suffering from depression. Indeed, according to a recent study from the University of Texas (United States), people who indulge in “binge-watching” (understand: the massive consumption of movies, series and TV shows for hours) are more likely than others to have depression.
A warning sign
To come to this conclusion, the researchers studied the health status of 316 people between the ages of 18 and 29. Verdict: the more the participants felt bad about themselves, the more they tended to take refuge in front of the small screen. “Binge-watching can be a warning sign that should not be overlooked,” says Dr. Yoon Hi Sung, lead author of the study.
“Moreover, binge-watching is also linked to other health problems, such as obesity and insomnia,” the researchers add. Another good reason to take it easy on breaking Bad and House of Cards !
