After 30 hours of live television in favor of research on rare diseases, the giant screen on the set of this 31st Telethon had 75.6 million euros in pledges. A year ago, that figure was 80.3 million euros.
This year, the context was a bit special. The same evening took place the “tribute evening” to Johnny Hallyday which attracted millions of viewers on TF1 and France 2. This event forced the Telethon to be scheduled on France 5. If this 31st edition had started rather well, posting a Slight advance in the morning of Saturday, December 9, compared to last year (7.85 million at 10:00 a.m. against 7.63 at the same time in 2016), this advance was only briefly retained. The charity marathon counter slowed down even more during the tribute to Johnny Hallyday.
The final figure in a week
This drop is part of a somewhat more timid context overall in the support of associations. The network’s generosity barometer Research and solidarity revealed that in 2016, the number of households having declared a donation to the tax authorities had decreased by more than 4% compared to 2015, while it had changed little for ten years. Since 2015, donations for the Telethon have decreased a little more each year.
However, nothing is finished yet since it is possible to continue to donate for a week. Last year, 80.3 million euros were collected as a result of the show, but ultimately 92.7 million euros were collected after this additional week. To do this, simply call 3637 or connect to the website www.telethon.fr.
