If you’re an Instagram follower, you couldn’t escape “the” well-being trend of the moment: tanning your perineum. Yes, you read that right: popularized by American influencer Meagan Whitson, “perineum sunning” consists of exposing your private parts to UV rays while adopting the happy baby yoga posture – concretely, it is a question of stretching out on your back, raise your legs and grab your feet in your hands. Completely naked, of course.
On social networks, photos stamped #perineumsunning are multiplying, and the practice seems to be taken very seriously: the popess of the movement, Meagan Whitson, even explains to her 30,000 subscribers that tanning the perineum is an ancestral practice (“from Taoism“) Who “boosts the immune system“, “helps to better absorb vitamin D“, “fight against viruses and bacteria” And “improves sleep“.”30 seconds of sun on your anus is the equivalent of a whole day of sun on your body” she says, clearly convinced.
Skin cancer and intimate sunburn
Yes, but here it is. First, we suspect, no scientific study confirms the potential benefits of “perineum sunning”. Worse: this “ancestral” practice is not mentioned in the principles of Taoism either.
Second, getting a tan on the perineum can have very serious health consequences: interviewed by our colleagues from the magazine paceDr. Gretchen Frieling and Heidi Prather (who are dermatologists in the United States) point out that “the skin around the anus and vulva is very thin, and it is almost never exposed to UV rays: the risk of carcinoma or melanoma is therefore real!“
Not to mention the risk of getting a badly placed sunburn… No question, therefore, of exposing your anus and/or vulva to UV rays for “Refuel energy” Or “reconnect with your inner self“. Instead, we can try our hand at mindfulness meditation (in the sun, why not, but don’t forget the sunscreen).
