This year, you are going on vacation with a clear objective: to come back with a nice tan, halfway between caramel and toasted bread. And to get this superb tanned complexion, you’re ready to make any sacrifices, even if it means testing the latest “tan” trend spotted on TikTok…
Stop! In your quest for the perfect tan, be careful not to overdo it. Because if the ultraviolet (UV) rays emitted by the sun can indeed make us look good when we return from vacation, they are also dangerous for our health.
Thus, as the Center for the Fight against Cancer Léon Bérard reminds us, “more than 80% of skin cancers are linked to excessive exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun“…
Melanoma is the most dangerous skin cancer
The most dreaded skin cancer is melanoma: although it represents only 10% of skin cancers (the rest are cutaneous carcinomas, which are often not very serious), it “has the highest increase in incidence among all cancers“and it was responsible for nearly 1,975 deaths in France in 2018.
To prevent skin cancer, there is only one solution: effective sun protection adapted to each person’s skin (more specifically: phototype). Even when looking to tan on vacation, sunscreen is still essential… it’s necessary to stay healthy!
