Like it’s made of cardboard
There comes a time in a car’s life when it’s over. That sad moment when only the organs are given a further life in or on another car. In the worst case, the remains go into the press for a final and unworthy end. Or, if the can is lucky, it ends in a spectacular bang, like this BMW 3 Series. He gets to spend his last minutes as a crucial part of the Strong Europe Tank Challenge in Germany.
It is flat, but there is no question of a cube. The tank comes with a run-up of about a thousand meters and leaves nothing of the Bimmer. And that to the delight of the cameraman, as we can hear. In Germany, tank divisions from all over the world come together to see who can best convert a poor old BMW 3-series (E36) into a flat piece of metal. The event is not all about bullying cars. There is also reportedly talk of comradeship and exchange of defense expertise.
The moving gun in this video is a Leopard 2A4, which has a top speed of 72 km/h and is powered by a V12 twin-turbo diesel engine producing 1,500 horsepower. It weighs around 62,000 pounds – which explains why the tank barely slows down when it hits the BMW. Given the run-up, we suspect that the tank is approaching its top speed reasonably at the time of the collision.
