In Taiwan, parents are going to have to watch their children closely. Indeed, this Friday, January 23, the Taiwanese government adopted a new amendment to the Law on the welfare of young people and children: from now on, parents will be liable to a fine of up to 1,400 euros if their children abuse on the computer, tablet or TV …
The goal? Avoid “mental or physical illnesses associated with their use”. The aim is to empower parents: in fact, in Taiwan, the abuse of new technologies has become a real public health problem. Recently the Huffington Post recalls that a 32-year-old Taiwanese man died of fatigue after playing non-stop 72 hours in a cyber café.
A law still unclear
Problem: the law remains unclear, and the exposure times are not specified. Parents will therefore have to rely on the opinions of the scientific community. National experts estimate that under 2 years old, children should not have access to a screen, and that between 3 and 18 years old, they should be content with sessions of only 30 minutes.
Please note: tablets prevent children from sleeping.
