At the end of January, the FondaMental foundation and the Île-de-France region launched “Écoute Étudiants”, a site dedicated to listening to and supporting students. Three months later, more than 25,000 students in psychological distress have used the platform.
- In three months, the site recorded nearly 40,000 connections for students from more than 95 establishments across the Île-de-France region.
- The site, free and anonymous, was designed by mental health professionals and offers information, advice and practical exercises to do at home.
- Since the launch of the site, more than 850 consultations have been carried out and more than 9,700 students have self-assessed.
- The platform has recently been opened up to apprentices, deaf students and young adults referred by local missions.
Although they are the population least at risk from Covid-19, students are the real victims of the health crisis. On January 29, Laurent Gerbaud, president of the Association of Directors of University Health Services and medical director of the student disability health center at Clermont-Auvergne University, sounded the alarm and told us that he there is “a total and complete disregard for the issue of health in the university”. In Île-de-France, this question seems to have been heard and at the end of January, the FondaMental foundation, with the support of the Île-de-France region, launched the platform “Listening Students”. According to a first report published this Friday, 25,400 students in psychological distress have used this platform.
A site designed by mental health professionals
The platform offers a place to which psychologically deprived students can turn and find help. The site, free and anonymous, was designed by mental health professionals and offers information, advice and practical exercises to do at home. In three months, it recorded nearly 40,000 connections for students from more than 95 establishments across the Île-de-France region.
Thanks to the support of the Region, free consultations are possible with psychologists trained in post-traumatic stress. Since the launch of the site, more than 850 consultations have been carried out, more than 9,700 students have self-assessed and a quarter of students who have connected have consulted at least twice. The most viewed informative module since the platform was put online concerns difficulties in working. In recent weeks, the page that has received the most visits is that of the module “I feel sad and/or have dark thoughts”.
A platform open to the hearing impaired and apprentices
“These first results demonstrate the relevance of this system and reflect the need for support for students, who are particularly affected psychologically by this endless pandemic. We have been sounding the alarm for several months now. Listening Students meets a crying need. We warmly thank the Region for its support and the psychologists for their involvement with us and the time they devote to the students.”, declared Marion Leboyer, Director of the FondaMental Foundation, in a press release.
The site has recently been opened up to apprentices, deaf students and young adults referred by local missions. “These young Ile-de-France residents will also be able to benefit from solutions adapted to their situation to improve their psychological state.”, wrote the platform in a press release. With the extension of the pandemic, the FondaMental Foundation and its partners encourage more than ever students in psychological distress to use the resources offered by Listening Students Île-de-France.”
