Students do not have the reflex to put on a condom during their sexual relations, according to the results of an OpinionWay poll for the Smerep. In 76% of cases, young people do not systematically use this contraceptive on the pretext that their relationship with their partner is stable.
On the occasion of Sidaction, Smerep, a student mutual insurance company, carried out a survey to determine the uses of high school and college students with condoms and screening for STIs. The findings are quite alarming, as they reveal risky behavior among young people who do not protect themselves from sexually transmitted infections, including AIDS. While contaminations with this infectious disease are still a reality in France. Each year, more than 6,000 new HIV infections are discovered and most of the affected individuals are sexually transmitted.
The condom too often forgotten

Also, 16% of the young people questioned declared having less sensations, while 10% of them admit that the condom bothers them. High school students are no more responsible than students, in fact, almost half of them (42%) do not use protection.
Students are not screened
When students change partners, they don’t have the reflex to get tested. 56% of high school students and 43% of students said they did not force themselves to be tested when they met a new person. This survey also reveals that the majority (70%) of the youngest do not know the risks of unprotected sex, because they have declared that they do not need to be screened. However, the National Institute for Public Health Surveillance (InVS) estimates that 30,000 to 40,000 people with HIV ignore it. However, early detection of HIV infection allows patients to benefit from rapid and effective medical care which increases their expectation and quality of life.
