Steam Deck finally receives Windows audio drivers

The Steam Deck, a portable gaming PC, is finally getting the necessary Windows audio drivers, months after its launch.

If gamers were to install Windows on this device, which comes standard with SteamOS, they would have to rely on wireless earphones or a USB dongle to hear sound.

The speakers on the device and the headphone jack did not work with Windows on board. Valve, the manufacturer of the Steam Deck, blames AMD for this. The drivers are download here

Initially, it also took a while before the device received the necessary drivers for WiFi, graphics, bluetooth and the SD card. That was also AMD at the time.

Despite this, it is still not really recommended to install Windows on the Steam Deck. Valve fixes bugs right away for users installing Linux; but Windows users are on their own for now, according to the message from the company.

The Deck basically meets the minimum specifications to be able to install Windows 11, but so far the user experience is sub-optimal. Many users are therefore still waiting for the dual boot option, which allows you to install two operating systems and choose a choice at boot time. It’s not clear when that feature will arrive.
