An Australian study published in Psychology & Sexuality indeed revealed that people with personality traits close to Machiavellianism, narcissism and psychopathy experienced greater excitement towards stealthing.
To reach this conclusion, the researchers conducted an online survey of 221 participants, recruited through social networks and Amazon’s MTurk site. There were no geographic criteria, but respondents had to be people with a penis, be 18 years or older, have had sex in the past six months, and have used a condom at least once for be able to participate in the study.
As part of the survey, participants provided various data, such as their level of alcohol consumption or their criminal history. The researchers then assessed their personality traits via the scale called “Dark Triad Shorts” and their relationship to the condom via the named grid “Condom Use Resistance Perpetration” by subjecting them to stealthing scenarios.
Result : “People aroused by stealthing scenarios scored significantly higher on all psychologically problematic traits of the “Short Dark Triad” than others. Additionally, the presence of psychopathy and/or narcissism within the personality are significant predictors of condom removal during sexual intercourse without partner consent. details the team.
