Not everyone in the Netherlands thinks the same about vaccination. What do you do when a close friend or dear family member thinks very differently from you?
Vaccination is a free choice in the Netherlands and you are either for or against it. But this discord about vaccination is not without consequences. Because on social media and also in our own networks we see a new phenomenon emerging: friendships that come under pressure because one person can be vaccinated and the other cannot.
That leads to uncomfortable situations. Lunch appointments with friends that are canceled because one friend is not vaccinated. A family reunion that not everyone can attend. There is misunderstanding over and over again. Heated phone calls with friends and relatives (or between partners) and even rifts. And even if you avoid the subject, it remains the awkward pink elephant in the corner of the room. That which is not there, is there anyway.
