If physical activity is excellent for health, some sports can lead to serious accidents or even death. In 2010, 246 people died while playing sports. Were excluded from this count, deaths by bicycle and drownings which occurred outside sports activities.
The deadliest mountain sports
The study which was conducted among hospitals, federations and associations on accidents in 2010 shows that mountain sports are the deadliest with 99 deaths. Water sports (50 dead) and hunting (27 dead) follow. Air sports are also singled out: 22 people died in an ultralight accident and 20 others during free flight sports (including ten in paragliding and five in a glider). As for motor sports, they claimed 23 victims.
Men more affected than women
The victims of these sports are mostly men. Indeed, the InVS has 7 times more than women. These fatal accidents occur in summer and winter.
