According to a study carried out by a team of researchers from the Russian Higher School, the length of the index and ring fingers would make it possible to know a person’s chances of social success.
Our ability to succeed in life depends on the length of the fingers.
Some studies surprise us, others leave us a little perplexed. Today we are learning that finger length depends on our ability to be successful in life. There is indeed a link between the level of testosterone, the sex hormone that determines the length of our fingers, and a person’s standard of living., according to this study published in the very serious journal Economics & Human Biology.
To reach this conclusion, researchers measured the index and phone book of 700 men and 900 women, aged 25 to 60. They were thus able to establish the Manning index, that is to say the ratio of the length between the index (2D finger) and the ring finger (4D finger) of the right hand lying flat. This index provides information on the hormone levels to which the fetus would have been exposed.
Exposure to testosterone in utero, the guarantee of a comfortable life?
At the same time, the researchers asked participants to complete a questionnaire that provided information on their standard of living. They were thus able to observe that the more the fetus had been exposed to testosterone in utero, the higher the standard of living of the participants. A finding to be taken with a certain hindsight, however, since previous studies had precisely proven the opposite.
According to this work, this impact of testosterone on social success was more evident in women than in men. The hormone only had an impact on the standard of living of men if it was associated with a good level of education. This conclusion leaves us a little puzzled about the seriousness of the study, but reminds us of the importance of a good education to be successful in life.
