The sale of nicotine substitutes is exploding in France.
300,000 French people use nicotine substitutes
Would the tobacco control policy really start to bear fruit? In any case, since the support of nicotine substitutes is no longer capped by Social Security, sales are exploding.
Indeed, until May 2018, the Social Security limited to 150 euros per year the coverage of patches, chewing gums and other tablets sold in pharmacies. From now on, as long as these are prescribed by a doctor, and therefore, are the subject of a prescription, the reimbursement of a majority of these subsitutes is assured. As a result, sales have jumped by more than 66%!
Tobacco: even more substitutes reimbursed in January 2019
It is estimated that 300,000 French people are currently undergoing treatment to get them out of cigarette addiction. But things will still evolve from January 1, 2019. On that date, the list of substitutes supported and therefore reimbursed by Social Security will be increased.
