All smokers who decide to quit smoking with the help of smoking cessation products will be reimbursed 150 euros by social security.
“The annual reimbursement package for the means of smoking cessation, so far between 50 and 150 euros, will be increased to 150 euros for everyone”, announced Tuesday the Minister of Health Marisol Touraine on RMC / BFMTV, at the microphone of Jean-Jacques Bourdin.
To date, young people, people in precarious situations and the sick could benefit from this reimbursement package of 150 euros. The other smokers only got an aid of 50 euros.
The Minister also affirmed that these packages were quite limited, but as the majority of manufacturers do not request a marketing authorization (MA) for nicotine substitutes, full reimbursement was not possible.
“They don’t want it because they want to be able to charge unlimited prices and when we reimburse, we set a price,” she explained.
As part of the anti-smoking campaign launched in 2014, smokers will only be able to buy neutral packages without a logo or distinctive color displaying health messages.
This year, the Minister of Social Affairs and Health is launching the “I (s) without tobacco”, the first life-size public health challenge ever organized in France.
