It is breaking an open door to say that tobacco causes a lot of damage to health. In France, he is responsible for 47,000 cancer deaths every year, it causes many cardiovascular (including hypertension) or pulmonary diseases like COPD, which requires patients to live on life support.
A new study from the General Hospital of Massachussets (United States) pleads in favor of smoking cessation. It indicates that cigarettes take more than 6 years of life expectancy in AIDS patients whose viral load is well controlled. “When smoking, a person living with HIV who takes their medication regularly is more likely to die from tobacco than from HIV” says Dr. Krishna Reddy, lead author of the study.
“Now that antiretroviral therapy for HIV gives patients the hope of prolonging their healthy lives, it is important to also take into account environmental factors which may, in turn, reduce this life expectancy.” adds the doctor.
This study was published in the Journal of infectious diseases.
