The use of smartphones increases the risk of attention deficit disorder and hyperactivity in young people, according to a recent study from the University of Virginia.
Living away from your smartphone is also living better. A study from the University of Virginia (USA) analyzed the effects of cell phone sound notifications on the brain and behavior. Those works, published in the journal Academia, revealed that these audible alerts cause disturbances in attention and increase hyperactivity.
To obtain these results, the researchers brought together 221 American students, reports among others the newspaper The evening. For a week, they were invited to keep their phones near them, and to increase the sound of their notifications (sound alerts for calls, text messages, etc.). A week later, their phones were put on silent and participants were moved away from their devices. At the end of each week, they had to answer a questionnaire.
Increased impatience
Impatience, stress, difficulty concentrating… By pooling their data, the researchers found that the students exhibited more symptoms of hyperactivity and loss of attention when the sound of their telephone was activated. And this in students who did not initially present this type of pathology. THEResearchers point out, however, that attention deficit disorder cannot be caused directly by smartphone use, but can be aggravated.
In a recent survey conducted in the United States, 95% of people admitted to using their smartphones during their social activities – just to see if they had not received a call or notifications. Another telling number of digital addiction, nearly one in ten Americans confess to glancing at their phone while having sex.
