Calm pain, fight against sterility
The waters of Luxeuil-les-Bains (Haute-Saône), chlorides, sodium and rich in trace elements, have a soothing effect on pelvic and genital pain. In particular those that appear after an intervention or endometrial infection (uterine lining) or tubes.
“They have anti-inflammatory and decongestant properties”, specifies Dr Christiane Althoffer, gynecologist at the station. Simple baths have sedative effects. As for the thermal mud poultices applied to the stomach, they soothe the painful sensations of heaviness during pelvic phlebitis (affecting a vein in the lower abdomen).

Here, the main care is the bath with vaginal irrigation. The person is immersed in a bathtub for about twenty minutes. Injected into the vagina using a single-use cannula, thermal water acts on pain in the small pelvis, genitals and bladder. “This water promotes the functioning of the ovaries, with a positive effect on the cervical mucus, specifies the gynecologist. It improves the quality of the mucous membranes, as well as the permeability of the tubes. This is why it is indicated in certain sterilities, between two in vitro fertilization, for its local and general action. “

Treat yeast infection and endometriosis
In Challes-les-Eaux (Savoie), sulfur waters have antibacterial and healing properties.
“We have a lot of young women with vaginal yeast infection rebels to treatments, explains Dr Frédérique Chamiot-Maitral, general practitioner. They suffer from permanent burns and vaginal dryness which affects their sex life. Thermal water, thanks to sulfur, restructures and softens the genital mucous membranes by normalizing the microbial flora. “
This water is also sovereign in the treatment of endometriosis (presence of uterine lining outside its normal location). This disease can manifest itself in different places of the body (ovaries, tubes…). “” The wall of the uterus thickens and patients experience severe pelvic pain, especially during menstruation, “said the doctor. And the cure brings them real relief.

Vulvar and cervico-vaginal spraying, a treatment specific to the establishment, acts more precisely on the genital tract. It is performed in an individual cabin by a midwife, because it requires the placement of a speculum. The curist is installed in a gynecological position in a hammock placed over a bathtub. The sulfur water is sprayed in fine droplets at the level of the perineum, up to the cervix. It acts in depth and has an analgesic effect. Midwives, in daily contact with curists, reassure and advise them.

Recover well after an operation
We often treat the after-effects of radiotherapy after a Cervical cancer, underlines Sylvie Heches, director of Luz-Saint-Sauveur thermal baths (Hautes-Pyrénées). We also take care of pain after procedures, such as removal of the uterus. Sanitizing and healing, the waters are rich in barégine, a fatty-like thermal algae that decongests the mucous membranes. Care is provided in the reassuring setting of a beautiful establishment open to the mountain. They can be supplemented by sessions of sophrology and by access to a well-being and relaxation area (€ 90 for three weeks, excluding reimbursement by Social Security).
Focus on the cure
After radiation therapy, many suffer from vaginal dryness or chronic pelvic pain. Performed by a gynecologist, a specific treatment (columnization) will relieve them and improve the elasticity of the tissues. It consists of placing, in the vagina, a compress of water that is kept for an hour in a lying position. Pelvic massages, on the other hand, prevent adhesions after an intervention.

A spa treatment to better live through menopause
The water of Bagnoles-de-l’Orne, in Normandy, is rich in copper, magnesium and iron. Its sedative effect is recommended in case of pain in the small pelvis. But it is especially remarkable for its action on hormonal problems.
The gases and trace elements it contains stimulate the hypothalamus, the “conductor” of the body’s glands, and recreate hormonal stimulation, explains Dr Marie-Claude Flusin, spa doctor. A woman in premenopause, between 45 and 50 years old, will therefore see her cycles gradually regularize. And the disorders related to this period (vaginal dryness, hot flashes, water retention, irritability, etc.) will subside.
