Heckled by electric SUVs, the Skoda Superb will not surrender so far. A fourth generation of the Czech brand’s flagship is in preparation. Here are already its strengths.
Launched in 2015, the current Skoda Superb will hand over to a fourth generation in 2023. The Czech brand of the Volkswagen Group recently released design sketches (see below) clearly indicating the future stylistic direction of these models.
The document specifies the staging of the grille, the body folds at the headlights, the light signature at the rear, as well as the models at the sidewalls. In other words, valuable indications for the Russian illustrator Nikita Ghuicko, who seized the opportunity and produced, using his graphic palette, a front view and a rear view of the future Skoda Superb. Two images where the affiliation with the little sister Skoda Octavia is evident. However, the flagship of the brand retains its high-end status.
A fastback limousine
Evidenced, first, an imposing grille, almost vertical, hemmed with thick chrome edges contrasting with refined full LED headlamps. The profile of the model gains in dynamism with an ascending rear quarter panel like that of the Octavia. This element will also accentuate the very elusive roof line in a fastback spirit which will bring the Skoda Superb closer to a four-door coupe when the current one is more sedan-like. The affiliation between the Octavia and the Superb will also be evident at the level of the stern, in particular with the reverse inclination of the sheet metal part above the lights. The Skoda Superb range will always be available in the form of a sedan and a station wagon, a type of bodywork that it will share with the future ninth generation Passat. The Volkswagen will also arrive in 2023 but it will no longer be offered as a sedan, this silhouette being reserved for the electric Volkswagen ID. 7.

A Superb made in Slovakia
Still resting on the Volkswagen group’s MQB platform, the new Skoda Superb will only be entitled to automatic transmissions in the future, ideal for plug-in hybrid technology. The latter was introduced into the manufacturer’s range during the restyling of the Superb in 2019. Called Skoda Superb iV, this plug-in version combines a 1.4 TSI petrol engine and an electric machine with a cumulative 218 hp and a range. on battery of 60 km. A coupling which should be renewed on the next version but after many improvements.
A time envisaged in Turkey, where a new factory was to emerge from the ground, the assembly of the Skoda Superb will finally be carried out at the (geopolitically safer) site in Bratislava, in Slovakia. The sedan will then have for neighbors the Audi Q7 and Q8, the Porsche Cayenne and Cayenne Coupé, as well as the Volkswagen Touareg. For the record, the current Skoda Superb is manufactured in Kvasiny, Czech Republic.
