On the eve of the Christmas holidays, Thierry Braillard, Secretary of State for Sports, launched a national campaign to prevent mountain accidents on the occasion of his visit to the National School of Ski and Mountaineering (ENSA) from Chamonix (Haute-Savoie).
Each year, more than 40,000 interventions of the emergency services are in fact recorded in the ski areas during the winter season. According to the government, this figure “fully” legitimizes the implementation of a national awareness campaign for practitioners.
A focus on ski touring
As every year, numerous communication tools and prevention advice relating to winter sports safety are available on the website. www.preventionhiver.sports.gouv.fr with, this winter, a focus on the practice of ski touring as well as new pictograms aimed at informing practitioners about the risk of avalanches.
The youngest will be made aware, in a fun way, of the right behaviors to follow on the slopes thanks to the educational video game “Skizzz Game” and videos featuring the character “Skizzz” on the slopes, but also on the ski lifts. Marie Martinod, Olympic half-pipe vice-champion, is also at the service of the campaign by presenting her various safety tips at key moments during the stay (before leaving, before going down the slopes, on the slopes).
About twenty “Prevention Spaces”
In addition, in addition to the dedicated website, the campaign is making the digital age through advertising banners on smartphone applications, themselves distributed geolocated in many ski resorts during the winter holidays.
Finally, the “Prevention Areas” are being renewed in around twenty stations in the different massifs. Users can find the new version of the winter prevention guide (in 5 languages), as well as the booklet “Behavior-Organization-Relaxation-Environment of the mountain 2016” and various quizzes to test the knowledge of holidaymakers in terms of mountain safety.
