The wife of the singer Christophe, hospitalized in intensive care in Brest because of “respiratory failure”, gives little reassuring news.
- The artist was hospitalized on March 26 in Paris for respiratory failure
- He has since been transferred to Brest hospital and placed in intensive care
The latest news from singer Christophe is not reassuring. Hospitalized on March 26 because of a “respiratory failure related to his emphysema” in Paris, the composer ofAline and blue words would now be in intensive care in Brest.
“He is still intubated under deep sedation. I ask the press not to disturb the medical teams and to respect him and his family, namely his only daughter and myself.declared his wife to Agence France Presse.
The latter did not specify whether the 74-year-old singer had been tested for coronavirus. When her hospitalization was announced, she told the Parisian : “I cannot confirm that he has coronavirus because the hospital refuses to give me information after too many calls from the pressexplains Christophe’s wife. His condition is not reassuring, but he is stable. We, his family, hope the lungs will hold and recover”. Likewise, her producer claimed not to “be able to confirm if he has tested positive for Covid-19”.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
emphysema is a chronic progressive lung disease. Since 2015, pulmonary emphysema and chronic bronchitis are referred to as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Little known, COPD nevertheless affects 1.7 million people in France and is the cause of 16,000 deaths per year, according to Inserm.
Eighty percent of cases are attributable to smoking, but COPD is also caused by pollution, exposure to chemicals (coal dust, plant dust, mould, etc.) or even a possible genetic component. “COPD is characterized by progressive narrowing and permanent obstruction of the airways and lungs, causing difficulty in breathing”. Unfortunately, there is no cure for it, its treatment consisting solely of slowing down its development.
The singer Christophe had to go on tour again when the epidemic started and had to perform in Paris at the Grand Rex on April 29 and 30. His two concerts were postponed when confinement was decreed.
