General practitioner Rutger Verhoeff answers readers’ questions
General practitioner Rutger Verhoeff answers readers’ questions. This time: I’m experiencing tingling and tingling plus nerve pain all over my body and face. Should I just learn to live with it, as the doctor says?
For about four months, I, a 77-year-old woman, have been suffering from tingling and tingling plus nerve pain all over my body and face. Extensive blood tests and a brain scan showed no abnormalities. I’ve been given tablets, Desloratadine, which are not helping. Should I just learn to live with it, as the doctor says?
I myself am of the opinion that you should not take medicine that does not help against the ailment. In any case, Desloratadine is not registered as a remedy for nerve complaints. On trial, a high dose of vitamin B12 would still be an option. Furthermore, haptotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy or EMDR in combination with breathing exercises can help you learn to cope with your illness. It is also possible to ask for a second opinion.
