The reflex of condom seems to get lost. And yet this is the only effective way to protect yourself from sexually transmitted infections (IST) and in particular of AIDS.
Young men most affected
In France, STIs and their complications are one of the five most frequent reasons for consultation among adults. There are more than thirty STIs: gonorrhea, chlamydia, hepatitis B, genital herpes, syphilis without forgetting AIDS.
In recent months in France as in Europe, cases of STIs have increased alarmingly. The real-time monitoring system of Marseille hospitals detected 10 times more cases of gonococcal infections (gonorrhea) called “hot piss”, 2.7 times more cases of active syphilis and almost twice as many cases of HIV end of 2012 compared to the period 2005-2011.
It is mainly young men and in particular the homosexual population who are affected by these STIs.
Free STI screening
The solution ? Remember to use condoms every time you have sex or to test for these diseases with your partner. Several centers in France offer free screening: anonymous and free screening centers (CDAG), STI information, screening and diagnosis centers (CIDDIST), family planning and education centers (CPEF) and PMI (Maternal and Child Protection) centers.
