One in four pharmacy students has already suffered sexual assault during their training, according to a damning new report unveiled yesterday Wednesday by the national association of pharmacy students in France (ANEPF).
Professors and deans implicated
The survey, relayed by 20 minutesis recent, since it was conducted from November 21 to December 21, 2021, and substantial, 2,103 students from 24 French faculties of pharmacy having been questioned.
In detail, 30.3% of respondents (men and women) say they have been victims of verbal abuse from professors, deans and students. 27% even say they have been sexually assaulted, at student parties but not only. 15% of the attacks took place inside the university, sometimes from professors.
Thoughts of suicide, depression, anxiety
Finally, during internships in pharmacies, 32% of students say they have been subjected to sexist remarks. 30% also say they have been the victim of sexual harassment, from patients (80.3%) or colleagues (37.1%). In hospitals, violence is most often inflicted by doctors and interns (37.7% and 30.1%).
These abuses have significant repercussions on 54.5% of the victims, who develop suicidal thoughts, depression and anxiety. For 15.8% of pharmacy students, their trauma triggered the use of drugs, alcohol or medication.
