In order to better treat the pain that women can feel in their vulva, a new guide identifies the underlying pathologies and their symptoms.
- According to a recent British study, 73% of women say they experience or have experienced pain during sex.
- Only 54% of men surveyed said they noticed their partner’s pain.
Mia.coteleconsultation platform in sexology and vulvaean application dedicated to genital health, join forces to create the very first information guide on vulvar pain. Are covered in the book:
– the main pathologies at the origin of vulvar pain;
– their symptoms;
– and their solutions.
Why is this important?
On Pubmed (search engine for medical articles), there are more than 26,000 sources dedicated to erectile disorders, compared to only 910 on vulvodynia (which would affect 16% of women) and 430 on vaginismus (which would affect 17%) .
“What we wanted was to provide a reference tool for healthcare professionals and the general public”, explain the project leaders. “That people understand what is happening to them when they have a vulvar problem, that they know how to react and can pass the word on to their loved one if someone tells them about it. Ditto for health professionals, who have no not necessarily had access to all these pathologies which have been around for a long time, and are still invisible, inaudible”, they continue.
Having pain is not normal
30% of women have already felt pain during sexual intercourse, and many are those who naturally associate sexuality with pain. However, having pain is not normal, and must push to react. “Our ambition is not to make a revolution (whatever), but to add a central tool in the care of vulvar pathologies, pain, in a context where medical wandering takes up far too much space”, add the project leaders.
