VIDEO. Prof. François Carré, cardiologist, reminds us why we have to move, and how to do it on a daily basis. If nothing changes, our children will live less than us.
In France, less than half of children respect the 60 minutes of daily physical activity recommended by health authorities. This inactivity worries doctors who fear long-term consequences and the emergence of a real public health problem.
“In 1971, a child ran an 800m in 3 minutes. In 2013, for this same distance, he needs 4 ”, warns Professor François Carré, cardiologist at the CHRU in Rennes and member of the French Federation of Cardiology (FFC). “In 40 years, our college students have lost about 25% of their physical capacity,” he explains. When we know that endurance is one of the best markers of healthy life expectancy, and if nothing changes, it may decrease. “
However, the benefits of physical activity have been identified and are clear. It allows the release of substances which strengthen the bones, protect against chronic diseases, cardiovascular diseases, Alzheimer’s disease …
For Professor Carré, however, little would be enough to improve the situation from an early age. “Physical activity is any muscle contraction that develops energy expenditure above that of rest”, he explains in The health guest. Take the children to school on foot, take the stairs, wash the tiles, garden, do crafts …
“It’s not doing physical activity that is good. It’s not doing it that’s wrong. We have no choice, we are made like that, and people need to be aware of it! “
