The gestures which save obtain the label of great national cause. An information campaign will be relayed from September 24.
First aid is in the spotlight in this year 2016. It was indeed chosen as “Great national cause”. The government not only celebrates volunteers, but also citizens who are trained in first aid.
This September 14 marks the start of a major awareness campaign that brings together the country’s firefighters, Civil Protection and the Red Cross. Relayed for two months on all available media, it goes hand in hand with the creation of a dedicated site: Saving behaviors.
12 minutes delay
Major floods, terrorist attacks and, more recently, forest fires… The year 2016 was punctuated by terrible events. Some have urged citizens to train in first aid. The Minister of the Interior, Bernard Cazeneuve, insisted on this subject: “Training in saving gestures means giving everyone the means to contribute to the work of collective security,” he said. This form of engagement has never been more essential than it is today. “
The authorities have also seized the ball with the Great Cause label, which aims to make the population “the first link in the relief chain”.
Indeed, it takes an average of 12 minutes between the time when the emergency services are called and when they intervene. During this interval, a trained person can accomplish a lot. David Ginola, campaign sponsor, can attest to this: it was first aid training that enabled him to survive his heart failure last May.
20,000 deaths per year
“Behavior that saves” is also the daily prevention of accidents in domestic life. Every year, 10 to 12 million of them occur, from handyman injury to unintentional fire. This campaign also aims to better alert citizens to prevention methods and the behavior to adopt in the face of such an incident. Because every year, 20,000 people die from such thoughtlessness, when it could have been avoided.
Great resources are therefore deployed to train and inform the population. The Saving Behavior site offers various quizzes, contests to win first aid training level 1 and indicates the places where such an offer is offered.
