If you’ve been struggling to find the motivation to get started running, this new UK study might inspire you to put on your sneakers. Indeed, according to this study published in the British journal of sport medicine, people who run regularly at least once a week have a 27% lower risk of dying prematurely compared to those who never run.
A meta-analysis on 232,000 people
To reach this conclusion, researchers at the Institute of Sport in Melbourne (Australia) conducted a meta-analysis of 14 published studies on the running habits of some 232,000 participants. During these studies (which lasted between 5 and 35 years), a total of nearly 26,000 participants died.
“Increasing the practice of running, regardless of the frequency, would likely lead to substantial improvements in the health and longevity of the population. Running, even just once a week, is better than not running at all. But it is still difficult to determine if the duration or the intensity of the race matters “stress the researchers.
