I regularly hear it said that it is better to limit canned food because of the high salt and sugar content. Would it help if you rinse these products (such as tuna and corn) under running water before consuming?
I do have the feeling that the product then tastes less salty or sweet and that especially the water in which the food is contained is very salty or sweet. Is this correct?

What a good question! It certainly makes sense to rinse canned vegetables under the tap. Tip: put legumes or vegetables from a jar or can in a colander and put them under the tap for 10 seconds. Then let them drain. As a result, you lose no less than 40 percent of the amount salt. There are also jars for sale that already contain less salt.
Whether this also applies to sugar is more difficult. Canned fruit contains sugar anyway. Don’t make the mistake of taking a sip of the juice, it is very sweet and therefore contains a lot of sugar.
Do you also have a question? Then ask one of our experts. Always go to your doctor with urgent questions, the experts are not the right person for that. Nor do they make diagnoses. The other conditions can be found here.
