It is used at traffic controls
A police laser check, you know that one. Hopefully not from experience. But did you know that the police, or rather customs, sometimes use an X-ray machine during a traffic control? And no, they don’t scan to see if you’ve broken a law. Or actually maybe.
Every now and then the police, together with the tax authorities or customs, for example, conduct major traffic checks. For example, they pull cars off the road whose ANPR camera (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) indicates that a fine is still pending or that the APK has expired, for example.
The Mobix
When the police invite customs for such a check, they sometimes take a mobile X-ray machine with them, which is also called Mobix. This converted truck can fold out an arm. By driving the arm along an object, the object is scanned with X-rays. The machine is large enough to scan trucks and containers.
Why the police sometimes use an X-ray machine
Criminals sometimes want to create hidden spaces in their vehicles. There they can hide prohibited substances and objects. Instead of turning the entire car inside out, the mobile scanner scans the car to see if there are any hidden spaces.
