The new, chic c-segmenter throws it on style

Another beautiful Peugeot design!
Our idea. Since the 3008, the brand has been doing very well, if you ask us. With the fresh logo and brand identity (‘inventive high-end generalist’, just so you know) the new Peugeot 308 goes one step further. It is longer, but against the trend also lower than its predecessor. Interesting, because Renault does exactly the opposite with the Megane. The idea behind the new proportions is more dynamics and more efficiency: the lower, smoother shape saves 2 grams of CO2 per kilometer.
How is the Peugeot 308 inside?
Boy, even more beautiful. Fine materials, distinctive design. He always has a counter screen; optionally 3D, so with two layers that are on top of each other so that your speed floats above your navigation map, for example. Wonderful. There is a lot of storage space, some fixed buttons and some adjustable ones. Ergonomically, it is a nice quest – in the beginning you have no idea how to set or view things. Sit down and pay attention to it and you’ll get the hang of it soon enough, but it’s not very intuitive.
Any other comments?
Yes: despite the larger dimensions (+11 centimeters length, +5.5 centimeters wheelbase), the new Peugeot 308 is not very spacious in the back. We like to drive with our seat in the lowest position – which is also necessary, given the sliding roof – but the classic ‘sitting behind yourself’ then becomes very cramped. That can also be done a lot better in the c-segment. Still a pity.
But how does the new Peugeot 308 drive?
Very nice, somewhat depending on the version. For example, we tried a SW Hybrid 180 in the standard version: fine, but feels a bit difficult in the corners. A 1.2 petrol (130 hp, manual gearbox): just pleasantly light-footed. A Hybrid 225 in GT version: appropriately tight and fast too. However, the hybrids brake noticeably more restlessly. In all versions, the 308 is beautifully quiet and the small i-Cockpit steering wheel provides a lively character. The well-known driving aids will be expanded with new, more advanced packages in the near future.
When can I buy it?
Very soon – as petrol, diesel or plug-in hybrid (t0t 60 kilometers electric). A fully electric version will follow in 2023. Prices have not yet been announced.
