This German tuner has not forgotten the five-door CLS
They don’t make them like that anymore – literally. Because the Mercedes-AMG CLS 63 Shooting Brake was taken out of production years ago. Unfortunately, the fastest version of the most beautiful CLS was only allowed to exist for one generation. At the German tuner Pogea Racing they are sad about that, as it turns out. Owner Eduard Pogea decided to take the special AMG and create his own ‘unicorn’. The result is this matt gray CLS Shooting Brake.
The beating heart, as with every AMG from that time, is a 5.5-litre biturbo V8. Pogea equipped it with a modified turbo and a larger intercooler and water pump, plus ‘Stage 3’ tuning for the seven-speed automatic. The power increased from 585 to 742 hp and the torque now remains at a modest 1,114 Nm. The tuner has pushed the CLS to 329 km/h and claims in funny English that the car still had ‘forward pressure’ left at that speed. Then you know.
Other adjustments to the Mercedes-AMG CLS 63 Shooting Brake
A new front suspension from KW Automotive was installed. Pogea programmed the air suspension to bring the entire car 25 millimeters closer to the ground. Carbon fiber accents were added here and there and inside we find a 12.5-inch Android screen and Wi-Fi. As usual with this tuner, the body was finished in Stealth Grey. Matching 20-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S rubber are the four icing on the cake.
Eduard Pogea has christened the car Lorenzo and is proud of its two-sided character. ‘You can drive more than 300 km/h and still feel safe and relaxed. Or you can drive calmly and consume no more than 8.8 l/100 km.’ He adds: ‘One of the last built CLS Shooting Brakes is now comprehensive, effective, powerful but also conservatively refined.’
This Mercedes-AMG CLS 63 Shooting Brake is a one off, but if you still have a car like this lying around and want the same treatment, you can undoubtedly knock on Pogea’s door.
