Pérez sets the fastest time
At the start of this 2nd training session of the 2021 American GP, Verstappen and Hamilton think it is already Sunday. When Max wants to start his lap, Lewis overtakes him before the last corner. Verstappen does not let himself be turned upside down and fights up to and including the first corner. Hamilton eventually finishes in front. Verstappen calls him a stupid idiot and waves him up with one finger.
Moments later, the Dutchman wants to make another attempt to start a lap, but then he ends up in heavy traffic. If he also has to abort his next round, Max has reached the boiling point. He says he’s done with it and comes into the pit lane to move on to the race simulations.
Pérez is doing good business in this training. Where Mercedes was still more than a second faster than the rest of the field in the 1st training session, the Mexican now sets the fastest time. Lewis Hamilton now drove an even faster lap, but that was removed because he went off track.
In the race simulations, the Red Bulls are slightly faster than the Mercedes. Verstappen and Pérez also seem to have better control of tire wear. So Red Bull will be especially strong on Sunday, while Mercedes seems to have the advantage on Saturday.
