On Reunion Island, two waves of food poisoning killed 110 people. The centers used the same catering service provider.
Headaches, vomiting, diarrhea… These symptoms have been developed by at least 75 people, victims of food poisoning after consuming meals prepared by a catering company.
Adults and children
The facts took place this week in Reunion. Thursday, the first cases of intoxication were declared in the afternoon, after lunch, in two nursing homes in Saline les Bains and Saint-Gilles les Bains (west of the island). Both adults and children are affected.
About thirty firefighters were mobilized to help the sick. About ten people had to go to the emergency room. However, the state of health of the patients does not seem to cause any concern since.
The Indian Ocean Regional Health Agency (ARS-OI) took samples from the remains of meals consumed by the victims. At the same time, “an action was carried out jointly by the services of the Food, Agriculture and Forestry Directorate (DAAF) and ARS-OI on the premises of the service provider (… ), in order to identify the germs involved and limit the number of contamination ”, we learn from a prefectural source.
35 new cases, same provider
A new wave of intoxication was observed this Friday morning, in two apprenticeship training centers (CFA) of Sainte-Clotilde (north of the island) and of Port (west of the island). Some 35 people, including apprentices housed in CFA boarding schools, were also victims of the same symptoms.
The day before, the patients had eaten meals prepared by the same service provider for dinner. The firefighters and the Samu were mobilized to take care of the people.
