Since 2018, Rétromobile has offered a space to sell and buy vintage cars for less than €25,000. The 2022 edition of the show perpetuates this young tradition, by offering a fairly large and varied selection of models that are still accessible, often in good condition.
The classic car has a somewhat elitist image in France. A visit to Rétromobile has sometimes helped to reinforce this impression, as there are so many exceptional cars costing more than €100,000. But since 2018, the Parisian salon has also offered an exhibition-sale composed solely of models under €25,000. In 2022, the area occupied by this space is roughly equivalent to that of the huge Artcurial stand. Except that here, there is no need to buy a catalog of the sale at 150 € or to be invited to approach. You are free to wander the aisles… at the risk of pulling out your checkbook. From the small convertible to the American pick-up, from the popular French to the large English sedan, there is indeed something for everyone. The argus offers you a small selection of images.

Sometimes rare and unusual models
Caution always needed
Even if it is a Mondial, often considered the ugly duckling of the brand, the presence of a Ferrari also attracts attention. Be careful, however, not to get too excited. The description of this 2 + 2 coupe with rear mid-engine states that its V8 is not rotating and that it is sold “without gray card or technical inspection”. Suffice to say that it will be necessary to provide a solid additional budget to hope to take the road behind the wheel. It’s also a good way to remember that buying a classic car isn’t all that different from buying a classic used vehicle. Careful inspection is needed to avoid seeing the dream turn into disillusion. Don’t forget to find out about the price of your future acquisition: some take advantage of trade shows and fairs to inflate prices, which are not always displayed. Hoping to have fun for less than €25,000 remains possible, however, if you remain cautious. A survey commissioned by the FIVA (International Federation of Vintage Vehicles) and the FFVE (French Federation of Vintage Vehicles) had also shown that the average purchase price of a vintage car was €17,800 in 2019. 58% of purchases are even less than 10 000 €.
